Who is My Other? Ryszard Kapuściński in Vijenac

Petra Miočić Mandić has on January 27ᵗʰ written a review for Vijenac about the recently published Ryszard Kapuściński book of lectures The Others. Writing about Kapuściński’s thesis of a very prolonged history of the sociological question of the Other, Miočić Mandić emphasizes:

“Even before the aristocratic and intellectual elites of the Old Continent accepted the entity of the Other with a capital O, in view of subjugation, colonization, mastery and conquest, they had already been dealing with the nonwhite non-European. Today, he is convinced, identity theory must return to its source, back to the time of Herodot’s History and in the Other, instead of danger, find the missing piece needed to complete the puzzle of self-understanding.“
