 „20th century in family perspective“

On June 14, the Portal novosti website published an extensive article by Marko Kostanić entitled „The 20th Century in Family Perspective“, in which he reviews Dražen Lalić's book Two Houses Above the Sea. The author of the article, among other things, points out: „So, the war in our region was greeted in a completely different family context than today's. And not only when it comes to the family as an economic unit, but also when it comes to memory mechanisms. These families with the trauma of war often faced mechanisms inherited from pre-modern times. Given that the public sphere as we know it today did not exist and that economic dependence was decisively marked by the family, the complicated relationships of close and extended families were the lens through which the world was interpreted. It should also be noted that the gender division of roles was outlined here: men participated in the emerging public sphere, and women were assigned the role of historians of family relations.“
