Marie-Anne Matard-Bonucci graduated from the Ecole Normale Supérieure and the French School in Rome. Her thesis, which deals with the history of fascism in Sicily, in 1994 prompted the publication of her first book, Histoire de la Mafia. Matard-Bonucci is an active member of several research centers: she is a researcher at the Center for the History of Political Science and co-chair of the GRIC (Groupe de Recherche sur l'Italie Contemporaine). In collaboration with Marco Lazar, also a specialist in contemporary Italian politics, she wrote the book L’Italie des années de plomb (2010). An important topic in Matard-Bonucci’s area of interest is also the issue of anti-semitism in the twentieth-century France and Italy. Fascist Italy and the Persecution of the Jews is one of several of her books dealing with the subject, as well as Totalitarisme fasciste.
