Jean Birnbaum
Jean Birnbaum, born in 1974, is a journalist specializing in current affairs. He is the son of academic Pierre Birnbaum. He works for Le Monde. He has also worked for radio France Culture, where he contributed to the „Staccato“ program, and produced a series of programs devoted to French Trotskyists. In his book Un silence religieux: La gauche face au djihadisme (2016), he argues that the Left's lack of reflection on the religious deprives it of the possibility of understanding jihadism, particularly that of the Islamic State. The 17th Montaigne Prize of the City of Bordeaux is awarded to him in 2019 for his book La Religion des Faibles.
